Henk Harms is a classic example of a backpacking trip gone wrong; he arrived with his mate in 1994 whilst backpacking around the world. He liked Australia so much that he decided to stay, and he started to work at the usual jobs for backpackers, like filling envelopes and the odd other jobs.
After saving enough money to buy a business suit, a mobile phone, pair of shoes and clean undies, he quickly landed a computer job. Starting as a temp he caught the attention of the CEO of First Direct as being extremely talented and innovative, Henk was put in charge of the IT team, and successfully put the team back on track during this time he discovered gaps in the ICT industry, whilst he got head-hunted by Optus he started his own company Dutch Digital Dynamics Pty/Ltd.
Working and living in Sydney, he quickly became recognised for his attention to detail and global knowledge in his field. He worked across the globe for several organizations in different capacities such as Principal Consultant, UML expert and Program Manager, working on projects with budgets up to $750 Million dollar. After several years at the top of his field he decided it was time to take a step back and to give something back to the Australian public. He joined the New South Wales Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS), sponsored local community groups and mapped remote areas in the Blue Mountains using his knowledge of GPS, Computer Systems and GIS, the detailed maps he produced are now standard issue for several NSW RFS brigades.
During this time, he attended more than 300 incidents a year such as fires, car accidents and fatalities, he was part of the Inter Agency Emergency (Police, Fire and Ambo) response team this team was deployed to fight the 2001 X-mass fires in the Blue Mountains and Sydney for a period of several months. He was called upon again for a long term deployment when the fires destroyed large areas of Canberra.
He received Recognition for protecting and saving life and property during the 2001-2002 Bushfire Campaign (Awarded by the NSW Premier Bob Carr) and a personal Letter of appreciation from Phil Koperberg (NSW RFS Commissioner)
In 2004 he decided to scale down his business by reducing his involvement in the hosting, network and VoIP services, he now mainly focuses on the core business which is consulting. During this time, he also relocated his business and family in Dayboro/King Scrub QLD. This is just North West of Brisbane.
He is now running a successful consulting business in Brisbane and is well respected in the ICT industry for his ethics, skills and willingness to share his knowledge . In his spare time he enjoys time with his family, local community and neighbors on his hobby farm whilst still providing services for free to the local community such as his online weather station, free business directory and company sponsorship.
